| REGULAR PITCH (SW or PW) Half roll time and half airtime; starting to set second lever. This shot is generally used when wanting to get a shot in the air, perhaps over a bunker, tree, or water. This shot has all the properties of the full swing. Length of back swing determines distance ball travels. Open stance Square or open club face (how high do you want the shot to go?) Weight even or favoring target side Ball center of stance Set a second lever (more setting of the wrists and hand) A pitch is a "mini-golf swing"; a shorter version of full swing LOB SHOT (SW/LW) One and quarter (or less) roll time 1st three quarter airtime. Open stance D. Weight on target side Open club face E. Hinge wrists early Ball forward F. Long finish DRILLS Pendulum drill (use tape or tees) - ____˝ ____ ____˝ ____ ____˝ ____ Using 3 tees or tape, place a club on the line square with you in the middle. Keep an eye on the path of the clubhead relative to a straight line. The clubhead initially travel straight back, gradually, arching inside as the backswing becomes longer. Then on the downswing the clubhead will return to square at impact. Before again tracking an inside path as the clubhead swings through. Hands lead club head drill - To keep the clubhead from passing the hands prior to impact. Practice swing in which you brush the grass ahead, to the target of the ball. You will not be able to do if target wrist breaks prematurely. Shaft extender drill - Use a PW and hold it end to end with another club, with grips touching. The shaft of the second club should run grips touching. The shaft of the second club should run up your target side. Rehearse chipping swing. If the clubhead pass your hands in the downswing, the shaft of the second club will hit you in the ribs as you swing through the hitting area. If done properly the second shaft will not come into contact with the target side. Head cover drill - Position a headcover about 8 inches behind the ball. Using a PW, make sure hands are well ahead of clubhead. Chip 20 yards. To avoid headcover you have to strike down on the ball. Scooping motion will hit headcover. Tongue depressor drill - Put on your target wrist through your watch or glove to hold the wrist flat. The wrist will stay flat against the tongue depressor through out the swing. This prevents the clubhead from releasing prematurely. Hands lead clubhead. Rear heel up drill - Put your hands together and let your arms/hands hang down. Get into a chipping set-up, let your arms go back and on the downswing push your rear heel up (rear knee toward target knee) and arms swing through. Shaft drill - Place any club from your bag on the ground. Take your set-up and place a club over the shaft on the ground. First practice with your rear hand and then with both hands on the club. Move the club over the shaft back and through. Make sure your arms and wrist stay they way they started. Flat target wrist and an indented rear wrist with arms extended. |
